The Entrepreneur DNA

A question I had last week was “how to become an entrepreneur”. Let me get this straight right away. A stupid answer would be "That's simple. Open a Business".

Peeps, entrepreneurship is more than just a business. It’s a lifestyle. Entrepreneurship is about happiness, about your life, about creation, about success, about building the future.

Today I’ll set a list of points which will help you analyse yourself to know if you got the entrepreneur DNA.

Number #1: You like to create things

Yes entrepreneurs are creative people. Right now you can ask an entrepreneur how to do something and he or she will tell you 10 different ways to achieve the desired result.

I have a friend who was good at making noodles, people used to laugh at him because he was proud he knew how to do noodles. Bitch, this guy today delivers noodles around Mauritius and is freaking Rich baby. How he did it? Using his creativity to bring his idea to this next level.

So, do you have a high sense of creativity?

Number #2: You form part of a community

Hold on right there, being member of asT vender group or mopays on Facebook does not mean you form part of a community.

I’m taking about real communities where you meet people, you develop something together. You team up with people who will push you forward and build a better society.

Some example include Mauritius Software Craftsmanship Community and Synergie Jeunes Ocean Indien.

You can also form part of sociocultural groups, which I find useless unless you want to do politics. The day sociocultural groups team up together to build something for Mauritius instead for a particular group of people or to earn the governments favor, then it will be useful to join them.

Number #3: Sense of Ownership

You have a sense of ownership. See, people like to own their own stuff. Imagine being with your friends, and someone sees your girlfriend and ask who is that beautiful girl? What’s your first reaction: That’s my girl, why are you looking at her, what’s your problem?

Same applies to your car when you just cleaned it and someone is about to get in it. Your reaction: Yo, clean that bloody shoes before getting in MY car.

Same applies to your life. Do you want to own something? You want to own your house, land, vehicle, family etc.

Number #4: Restless and no achievement is ever enough

You are never satisfied. There’s always room for improvement. And you always try to figure out how you can do things better. Typical attitude in entrepreneurship. If you don’t have this in business, you might end up broke.

Number #5: You are a control freak

You want to control everything around you. You may have 12 tasks to deliver but still want full control of all of them. This can be dangerous but all entrepreneurs know the risks. In some other blogs, I’ll write about the art of delegation whilst having control.

Number #6: You are the black sheep or dropout.

No one seems to understand you. People say you are crazy, you are psycho. This is common to almost all entrepreneurs. But let me get one thing clear. If you are still hearing these things, it’s probably your fault because you are still surrounding yourself with negativity. Go back to number 2, and find out, a group of psycho, as normal people would say it, and make your way to success.

Number #7: You like to win

You like competition, but winning is what you want. Entrepreneurs like to win although it’s the failures that build them stronger. But let’s be practical. Who likes to fail anyway?

Every time I get in a new field, I do it with a mind set to dominate the industry and take control of the market. This may sound selfish, but if you want to reach massive success this is the path you would want to take.

Number #8: You are shameless

Let’s get back to point 7 for a minute. Even if you enter the industry in the mind-set of a killer, you might have huge companies as competitors. But you are ready to fight them on their ground even if you might fail. There’s no shame at being shameless.

Do you know who else is shameless? Richard Branson. Just go through his bio and find out how he did his first marketing campaign. Simple awesome.

Number #9: You are curious

You are always looking for new topics to explore, new experiment to carry out, and new technology to test, even if you might be at lost if your experiment fails.

For example: Entrepreneurs are sometimes bored with having to build business plan and stuffs before getting in a particular industry. So what they do? They just go right into business just to test the market at the peril of their money. I’m always doing this even though I have lost loads of money in certain business, but it’s the process that I like since I believe there’s no better way than exploring it yourself.

Number #10: You have an expensive taste

We entrepreneurs would prefer to buy branded clothes instead of purchasing a t-shirt at the bazaar. We entrepreneurs would prefer to own a five star hotel instead of only spending a weekend over there. We have expensive dreams. And we are always moving towards that dream.

So here we are. If you answered yes to any of the above points. You have the DNA of an entrepreneur. If you answered no to all questions. You might be too complex for me to understand you, normal person. :-)

For entrepreneurs who found themselves in the above points, keep rolling baby, we are the future and we have no right to stop until we reach massive success and ensure a proper future for the upcoming generations.
